Yoga & Meditation
Care for the body. Refine your actions. Understand the Mind. Let contemplation grow from a steady foundation.

Yoga is a wider inquiry
Many people first encounter yoga through postures and breathing. This teaching asks readers to place those practices within a broader spiritual context, extending attention to action, devotion, concentration and knowledge.
The Sanskrit root yuj is commonly translated as joining or yoking. In this Vedantic presentation, yoga concerns the apparent separation between the individual self and the Infinite. Different disciplines help prepare the personality for that inquiry.
Five complementary disciplines
This articles emphasise that these disciplines address different aspects of the personality. Their relative emphasis can vary with temperament, experience and the guidance of a qualified teacher.
Hatha Yoga
Care for physical fitness, flexibility and steadiness through suitable physical and breathing practices.
Karma Yoga
Act responsibly, serve with care and examine your attachment to the result of your work.
Upasana Yoga
Cultivate attention and steadiness through structured contemplative practice.
Bhakti Yoga
Give devotion, humility and gratitude a place in the emotional life.
Jnana Yoga
Study, question and reflect on the nature of the self and reality.
Preparation matters
Prabha's central concern is the gap between a brief experience of calm and a sustained, thoughtful practice. Postures alone do not address every desire or habit. A short retreat does not automatically change the way you meet the pressures of everyday life.
Build preparation into ordinary living: considered action, ethical conduct, study, reflection and a balanced routine. The Intellect helps you evaluate your practice and remain attentive to its purpose.
Understanding meditation
Guided meditation, mindfulness practices and Vedantic contemplation have different aims and methods. In this teaching, Vedantic meditation, nididhyasana, involves sustained contemplation of the understanding developed through study and reflection.
Approach practice patiently and with suitable guidance. Avoid treating the suppression of thoughts or the pursuit of unusual experiences as proof of spiritual progress.
The 'Yoga and Medication' article
The provocative title drew attention to incomplete preparation and exaggerated promises around spiritual practice. Its useful question remains: Are you caring for the whole personality, or expecting one technique to answer every difficulty?
Meditation and yoga are not substitutes for needed healthcare. If a practice causes distress, stop and seek appropriate guidance. Medication can be an important part of care, and changes to treatment belong with a qualified healthcare professional.
NCCIH: Meditation and mindfulness ↗A practice you can carry into life
Give equal thought to what you do on the mat and how you act afterwards. Begin with a manageable routine that includes care for the body, time for study and one action performed with greater awareness.
